If you started researching the Agentforce Specialist certification any time before this year, most of what you read is now out of date. The exam that used to be free is $200. The outline that used to have five sections has six. The credential that used to be called AI Specialist no longer exists under that name.

What the Agentforce Specialist Certification Is
The Salesforce Certified Agentforce Specialist credential validates that you can build, configure, test and deploy AI agents on the Salesforce platform. It sits at the specialist level, above the fundamentals tier and below the architect credentials.
Salesforce renamed the AI Specialist exam to Agentforce Specialist on 3 March 2025. Anyone holding AI Specialist at the time had their credential updated automatically with no retest. The AI Associate credential has since been folded into the same path, which is why searches for both older names now land on Agentforce material.
Prep providers and the Trailhead Academy course list it as AI-201, so you will see that code on Coursera, Udemy and practice-test listings. Salesforce itself does not print an exam code on the credential page.
Exam Tip: The current exam is aligned to the Spring '26 release. Any study guide written against an earlier release will be missing the Governance and Observability domain entirely.

Two of those numbers catch people out.
The first is the price. The first attempt at Agentforce Specialist was free under Salesforce's AI for All initiative, and that window closed on 31 December 2025. Guides and forum posts written during that period still say the exam is free. It is not. As of 2026 you pay $200 for the first attempt and $100 for each retake.
The second is the pass mark. At 72% across 60 scored questions, you can afford to get 16 wrong. That sounds generous until you see the domain split.
The Six Exam Domains and Their Weightings
Salesforce restructured the outline for the Spring '26 alignment. The current exam measures six areas:

AI Agents (35%)
This is the exam. Over a third of your marks come from agent configuration: topics, actions, instructions, the scope of what an agent is allowed to do, and how it hands off to a human. If you revise nothing else properly, revise this.
Prompt Engineering (20%)
Prompt templates, grounding, and how template types map to use cases. Questions here tend to be scenario-based rather than definitional, so memorising a list of template names will not carry you.
Data 360 Fundamentals (20%)
The domain formerly framed as Data Cloud. You need to understand how data is unified and made available to agents for grounding, not how to administer the platform end to end.
Testing, Deployment, Governance and Multi-Agent Orchestration (25% combined)
The back quarter of the exam is where candidates who studied from pre-2026 material lose marks. Governance and Observability is a distinct domain now, covering audit trails, permissions and monitoring agent behaviour in production. Multi-Agent Orchestration is only 5%, roughly three questions, so budget your revision accordingly.
Exam Tip: AI Agents and Prompt Engineering together are 55% of the exam. Two thirds of your study time should sit in those two domains.
How Hard Is the Agentforce Specialist Exam?
Salesforce states the target candidate has around one year of hands-on Salesforce platform configuration experience, including building agents and writing prompt templates.
That recommendation is doing real work. The exam is heavily scenario-driven, and the distractors are plausible configurations rather than obviously wrong answers. Candidates who pass it on Trailhead reading alone are the exception, not the norm. Candidates who have actually built an agent in a sandbox, broken it, and fixed it tend to find the scenarios readable.
The honest comparison: it is harder than the fundamentals-tier Salesforce credentials and easier than the architect exams. It is not the hardest Salesforce certification, and anyone telling you it is a quick win because it once had a free voucher is describing 2025, not 2026.
Who Should Sit It, and Who Should Not
Sit it if you already work in the Salesforce ecosystem and agent work is landing on your desk. Administrators, developers and consultants implementing Agentforce get direct value, and the credential is the current marker for that skill set.
Skip it if you are new to IT certifications and have no Salesforce background. There are no prerequisites, but "no prerequisites" and "no assumed knowledge" are different things. The exam assumes you know your way around the platform, and $200 is an expensive way to find out you do not.

The Wider Salesforce Certification Shake-Up
Agentforce Specialist is one piece of a much larger reorganisation. On 24 July 2026 Salesforce renamed 16 certifications, with "Agentforce" appearing in nine of the new names. Sales Cloud Consultant became Agentforce Sales Consultant, for example. Exam content did not change and nobody had to retest, but every credential on affected Trailblazer profiles updated automatically.
A further 24 certifications retire on 1 February 2027. Registration for those exams has already closed. If you hold one, it stays on your profile and is marked as retired from that date, and the knowledge behind it does not evaporate. It simply stops being a credential Salesforce issues.
The direction is clear enough: the portfolio is being rebuilt around agents, and the specialist-level agent credential is the one Salesforce is putting its weight behind.
