How to Pass the ServiceNow CSA Exam in 2026: A 6-Week Study Plan for the New Pearson VUE Rules and Delta Model

ServiceNow scrapped exam vouchers, moved to Pearson VUE and introduced yearly Delta exams. Here is the current ServiceNow CSA certification blueprint, the six domains by weight, and a 6-week study plan built around them.

Most of the ServiceNow CSA certification advice you will find online is describing an exam that no longer exists. It talks about buying a voucher code, booking through Webassessor, and sitting a Yokohama-based paper. All three of those are wrong in 2026.

ServiceNow rebuilt the mechanics of its certification programme over the last year. Exams moved to Pearson VUE, voucher codes were abolished in favour of an eligibility model tied to training, and a yearly Delta exam now governs how you keep the credential once you have it. None of that changes what you need to know to pass, but it changes how you book, what you pay, and what happens when you fail.

Here is the current picture and a six-week plan that follows the actual domain weights.

What Changed About the ServiceNow CSA Certification in 2026

Four changes matter to anyone sitting the exam this year.

Exam delivery moved to Pearson VUE. ServiceNow retired Kryterion and Webassessor on 18 November 2025. Exams are now purchased and scheduled through ServiceNow University, and online proctored sittings run on OnVUE, the same platform CompTIA and Microsoft candidates use. If you have never sat an OnVUE exam, read the OnVUE check-in rules and room scan requirements before booking, because the failure modes there have nothing to do with ServiceNow knowledge.

Voucher codes are gone. There is no longer a code to buy, redeem or lose. Instead you unlock exam eligibility by completing the required ServiceNow course. For the CSA that is ServiceNow Administration Fundamentals, available as a free on-demand course. Eligibility itself does not expire.

Registration starts a 90-day clock. Once you register for the exam you have 90 days to sit it. Miss that window and you forfeit the attempt and pay again. Exam payments are nonrefundable and cannot be cancelled, though rescheduling inside the window is free.

Retakes were loosened, then slowed down. The old cap of three retakes has been removed, so you can no longer permanently lock yourself out. In exchange, the waiting periods grew: three days between your first and second attempts, 30 days before a third, and six months for anything after that.

Exam Tip: The 90-day registration window is the trap that catches people. Complete the Administration Fundamentals course first, get comfortable, and only then register and pay. Eligibility never expires, so there is no benefit to registering early.

ServiceNow CSA Exam Format and Domain Weights

The CSA mainline exam is 60 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes. That gives you 90 seconds per question, which is generous for this exam. Time pressure is not what fails candidates.

The blueprint splits into six learning domains:

DomainWeightQuestions (approx.)
LD5: Database Management27%16
LD3: Configuring Applications for Collaboration20%12
LD4: Self-Service and Automation20%12
LD6: Data Migration and Integration15%9
LD2: Instance Configuration11%7
LD1: Platform Overview and Navigation7%4

Read that table before you read anything else. Database Management alone is more than a quarter of the exam, and combined with Collaboration and Automation the top three domains account for 67% of your questions. Platform Overview and Navigation, which is where most people spend their first fortnight because it is the easiest material, is worth four questions.

The Passing Score Nobody Can Actually Quote You

You will see "70%" repeated across dozens of ServiceNow CSA study guides. Treat it as folklore.

ServiceNow does not publish the cut score for the CSA exam. The exams use a calculated cut score rather than a fixed percentage, and the company has consistently declined to disclose it in its own community forums. Anyone stating a precise pass mark as fact is guessing, and some of them are guessing in order to sell you something.

The practical consequence is simple: you cannot plan around scraping a pass. Aim to be comfortably correct across all six domains rather than calculating how many you can afford to drop.

The 6-Week ServiceNow CSA Certification Study Plan

This plan assumes eight to ten hours a week and front-loads the heavy domains. Work in a Personal Developer Instance (PDI) from day one. ServiceNow gives these away free, and the CSA is a practical administration exam that punishes people who only read.

WeekFocusWeight covered
1Administration Fundamentals course start, PDI setup, LD1 Platform Overview and Navigation7%
2LD2 Instance Configuration, UI policies, client scripts, form design11%
3LD5 Database Management part one: tables, dictionary, references27% (part)
4LD5 part two: ACLs and data model, then LD3 Collaboration20%
5LD4 Self-Service and Automation: flows, service catalogue, notifications20%
6LD6 Data Migration and Integration, then full-blueprint revision15%

Weeks 1 and 2: Get the instance under your hands

Complete the Administration Fundamentals modules and build things in your PDI as you go. Create users, assign roles, build a form, configure a UI policy. The navigation domain is only 7%, so do not linger there, but you need fluency in moving around an instance before the heavier material makes sense.

Weeks 3 and 4: Database Management is the exam

Twenty-seven percent sits here, and it is where candidates lose. Tables and the dictionary, table extension and inheritance, reference and glide list fields, dot-walking, and access control rules. ACLs in particular reward hands-on practice: build a rule, break it deliberately, then work out why a user can or cannot see a record.

Move into Collaboration in week four while the data model is fresh, since assignment rules and approvals depend on understanding how records relate.

Week 5: Automation and self-service

Flow Designer, the service catalogue, record producers, notifications and events. Another 20%, and much of it is clicking through configuration rather than memorising. Build a working catalogue item end to end and you will have covered most of the domain.

Week 6: Integration and revision

Import sets, transform maps, coalescing, update sets and the basics of web services. Then revise against the blueprint weights rather than your comfort level. Any domain where you cannot explain a concept out loud gets another pass.

Which Release Will You Be Tested On?

ServiceNow now runs a yearly Delta exam model, and mainline exams are updated shortly after each family release reaches general availability.

The Zurich Delta window opened on 16 January 2026, and reference material for the CSA mainline exam was updated to Zurich in May 2026. Candidates sitting from mid-2026 onwards should expect content to track the Australia release as that rolls out. Check the exam blueprint on ServiceNow University in the week you register rather than trusting a study guide's version claim, including this one.

The Delta exam matters after you pass, not before. It is how you maintain the certification against the next release, and it replaces the older ad-hoc upgrade sittings.

What the ServiceNow CSA Certification Costs

ItemCost (USD)
Administration Fundamentals on-demand courseFree
CSA mainline exam$300
CSA retake$150
Two-day instructor-led training (exam attempt included)$1,900
Three-day instructor-led training (exam attempt included)$2,700

The on-demand route unlocks the same eligibility as the paid classroom courses, so $300 is the genuine floor for a self-funded candidate. Note that CIS certifications sit at $450 with $225 retakes, and several now require CIS-DF (Data Foundation) as a prerequisite, which is worth knowing if you are planning a path beyond CSA.

If you are weighing ServiceNow against the framework side of IT service management, our breakdown of ITIL 5 Foundation cost and format covers the other half of that skill set. Many ITSM roles ask for both: ITIL for the process vocabulary, ServiceNow for the platform that implements it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How difficult is the ServiceNow CSA exam?

It is a fair entry-level platform exam, but it is practical rather than theoretical. Candidates who study only from slides and videos tend to fail, because roughly two-thirds of the blueprint covers configuration tasks you can only internalise by performing them. With a PDI and six weeks of consistent hands-on work, most people pass first time.

What is the passing score for the ServiceNow CSA exam?

ServiceNow does not publish it. The exam uses a calculated cut score and the company has declined to disclose the threshold. The widely repeated figure of 70% is unofficial, so prepare to be solid across all six domains rather than aiming at a specific number.

How to pass the ServiceNow CSA exam?

Complete the free Administration Fundamentals course to unlock eligibility, then build everything you learn inside a Personal Developer Instance. Study in proportion to the blueprint weights, giving Database Management roughly a quarter of your total time, and finish with timed practice questions to confirm recall under exam conditions.

How long does it take to get ServiceNow CSA certified?

Six weeks at eight to ten hours a week is realistic for someone with general IT experience but no ServiceNow background. Existing platform users often compress this to three or four weeks. Remember that registering starts a 90-day clock, so prepare first and register second.

Is the ServiceNow CSA exam free?

No. The mainline exam is $300, with a $150 retake fee. The required Administration Fundamentals on-demand training is free, and the Personal Developer Instance you practise in is free, so training costs nothing if you avoid the instructor-led options.

Ready to Start Practising?

Reading the blueprint tells you what is on the exam. Answering questions under time tells you whether you actually know it, and that gap is where most failed attempts live.

CertCrush builds exam-style practice questions with full explanations for the certifications IT professionals actually sit, so you find your weak domains before an invigilator does.
