What Changed in 2026
Okta has been steadily rebuilding its exam catalogue around hands-on assessment rather than multiple choice.
The first wave happened in 2024, when the classic exams built on the Okta Classic Engine were retired and replaced with exams aligned to the Okta Identity Engine (OIE). The last day to sit the classic exams was 31 May 2024.
The second wave is the one catching people out now. The Okta Certified Professional Hands-On Configuration Exam for OIE was discontinued on 6 July 2026, with 5 July 2026 the last day it could be taken. Maintenance exams alternate in price: $100 on odd-numbered attempts and $0 on even-numbered ones. Technical Architect holders get an automatic one-year extension, giving that credential a three-year life.
