About the Microsoft AB-900 Exam
Exam AB-900 is Microsoft's fundamentals certification for administering Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents. Microsoft last updated the skills measured on 22 July 2026, and the shape of the exam catches out anyone who assumes a Copilot exam is mostly about Copilot. The largest area is data protection and governance for Microsoft 365 and Copilot at 35 to 40 percent, and most of that is Microsoft Purview: sensitivity labels, data loss prevention, Insider Risk Management, Communication Compliance, retention, and Data Security Posture Management for AI. Identifying the core features and objects of Microsoft 365 services takes another 30 to 35 percent, spanning the Microsoft 365, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams and Entra admin centers along with conditional access, single sign-on, Privileged Identity Management and Identity Secure Score. Only 25 to 30 percent is the Copilot and agent administration most candidates expect to dominate: assigning licenses, managing pay-as-you-go billing, monitoring usage and adoption, and creating, approving and monitoring agents. That weighting is why people who revise Copilot features alone come up short. If you cannot say how Copilot inherits SharePoint permissions, or which tool surfaces oversharing before a tenant-wide rollout, you are exposed on two thirds of the exam. You get 45 minutes and you need 700 out of 1000 to pass. The exam may include interactive components, and fundamentals exams give you no access to Microsoft Learn while you sit them. AB-900 fits administrators and support staff who have been asked to switch Copilot on for a tenant and keep the data inside it safe.

Exam Format & Details
45 minutes. Passing score is 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000, which the site shows as 70 percent. Microsoft does not publish a fixed question count for AB-900; its own guidance says most certification exams contain between 40 and 60 questions. The exam is proctored and may include interactive components such as drag and drop and build list items. Unlike Microsoft's role-based exams, fundamentals exams give you no access to Microsoft Learn while you sit them. Book through Pearson VUE, or through Certiport if you are a student or educator. US list price is 99 USD, and the price you pay depends on the country or region where the exam is proctored.
Why Practice Questions Matter
AB-900 keeps asking you to identify the right admin center, the right Purview tool, or the right control for a stated requirement. Reading about sensitivity labels and DSPM for AI does not build the recall that format needs. Practice questions do, because each one forces the same choice the exam forces and then tells you why the near-miss answer was wrong. The weighting matters as much as the volume: with 35 to 40 percent of the exam sitting on data protection and governance, a bank distributed to match the blueprint keeps your revision on Purview instead of on the Copilot features that are more enjoyable to read about.
