About the Microsoft AZ-900 exam
Microsoft AZ-900 (Azure Fundamentals) is the entry point to the Azure certification track, covering cloud concepts, core Azure architecture and services, and the management and governance tools that keep an Azure estate under control. This course gives you the practice questions, flashcards and study guide to walk in able to name the right service for any requirement the exam puts in front of you.

AZ-900 is the exam most candidates sit before they have built anything in Azure, and that shapes what it asks. Almost every objective starts with the word describe. Nobody expects you to deploy a virtual network or write an ARM template. You are being asked to recognise which Azure concept or service answers a stated business requirement, and to keep apart the pairs Microsoft named to sound similar. Three areas make up the exam. Cloud concepts is the vendor-neutral quarter: the shared responsibility model, public, private and hybrid deployment, consumption-based pricing, capital against operational expenditure, serverless, and the IaaS, PaaS and SaaS split with the use cases that go with each. Azure architecture and services is the largest block and the most factual: regions, region pairs, sovereign regions, availability zones, the management group to subscription to resource group hierarchy, virtual machines and scale sets, containers and functions, virtual networks, peering, VPN Gateway and ExpressRoute, storage tiers and redundancy options, and the identity and security set covering Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, Azure RBAC, Zero Trust and Defender for Cloud. Azure management and governance closes it out with cost management and the pricing calculator, tags, Azure Policy, resource locks, Microsoft Purview, the Azure portal, Cloud Shell, CLI and PowerShell, Azure Arc, ARM templates, and the monitoring trio of Advisor, Service Health and Azure Monitor. Candidates lose marks on the near-neighbour pairs rather than on hard technology: region pairs against availability zones, Azure Policy against a resource lock, Advisor against Service Health, geo-redundant storage against zone-redundant storage. Telling those apart quickly is the whole skill.

Exam Format & Details
45 minutes of exam time inside a 65 minute appointment, roughly 40 to 60 questions, delivered online or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Microsoft does not publish an exact question count for AZ-900. You need a scaled score of 700 out of 1000 to pass, which the app tracks as 70 percent. Most items are multiple choice and multiple response, and Microsoft states the exam may include interactive components such as drag and drop (matching) and build list (ordering) items. There are no labs on a Fundamentals exam, and Microsoft Learn is not available to you during it. The voucher is 99 USD in the United States and is priced regionally elsewhere. Book through Pearson VUE from the Microsoft Learn exam page, or through Certiport if you are a student or educator. The skills measured list was last updated on 20 July 2026. The exam has no prerequisites and the certification does not expire.
Why Practice Questions Matter
AZ-900 gives you 45 minutes for roughly 40 to 60 questions, so there is around a minute per item and no time to reason a definition out from first principles. The content is broad rather than deep, which makes recall the binding constraint. Practice questions build that recall the way the exam tests it: a short business scenario, four plausible Azure services, one that fits. Working through several hundred of them forces the distinctions that cost marks, such as which storage redundancy option survives the loss of a whole region, and the explanation after each answer tells you why the tempting option was wrong.
