The Project Management Professional certification is PMI's senior credential for people who already run projects and want proof of it. The current exam follows the Examination Content Outline published for July 2026, which changed how the questions are shared out. People carries 33%, Process 41%, and Business Environment 26%. That last figure is the one to watch. Under the previous outline Business Environment was worth 8%, so anyone revising from older material walks in having under-prepared about a quarter of the paper. The exam runs 180 questions in 240 minutes, and 10 of those are unscored pretest items that look identical to the rest. PMI widened the item types at the same time. Alongside multiple choice and multiple response you will meet case-study sections where several questions hang off one scenario, matching questions that pair items across columns, graphic-based questions built on a chart, point-and-click items, and pull-down lists. Two 10-minute breaks are built into the sitting, the first of them after the case-study section. Most candidates who struggle are not short on project experience. They answer from how their own employer does things rather than from how PMI frames the situation, and the scenario questions punish that fast. The exam wants a judgement call: what does the project manager do next, given a servant-leadership stance, a delivery approach tailored to the work, and an obligation to the business case. Eligibility runs on education plus months of project leadership, and PMI requires 35 hours of project management training before you apply.

Exam Format & Details
180 questions in 240 minutes, of which 10 are unscored pretest items scattered at random. Item types are case or scenario sets, enhanced matching, graphic-based questions, multiple-choice single response, multiple-response, point and click, matching, and pull-down lists. Matching, point and click and pull-down lists are offered on computer-based testing only. Two 10-minute breaks are built in: the first after the case-study section, the second about midway through the independent questions. Booked through Pearson VUE, either at a test centre or online proctored via OnVUE. PMI publishes no passing score. The PMI Certification Handbook states that the passing score for all PMI exams is set by psychometric analysis against a criterion standard, so the 70% shown here is CertCrush's practice threshold and not a PMI figure. Exam fees vary by PMI membership status and region, and PMI publishes no single USD price.
Why Practice Questions Matter
Practice questions matter more for the PMP than for most exams because almost nothing on it is recall. A question hands you a situation and four defensible-sounding actions, and the work is picking the one PMI considers correct rather than the one your last employer would have chosen. That instinct only shifts through repetition. Working several hundred scenarios teaches you the pattern: talk to the person before escalating, check the agreement before changing the plan, protect the business case before protecting the schedule. It also builds the reading speed you need to clear 180 questions in 240 minutes.

- D.66
Domain: People
Q2.Two teams on a banking integration have built incompatible interfaces. Each designed to a different definition of 'a single customer view', a phrase taken straight from the vision statement. What should the project manager do FIRST?
- A.Work back through why the phrase was read two ways, then remove the condition that allowed it, starting with testable success criteria for the vision.
- B.Convene a meeting of both teams to clarify what the vision statement means.
- C.Direct one team to rework its interface to match the other, since the release date is fixed.
- D.Raise a change request to amend the wording of the vision statement.

Q3.Twenty people attend the weekly coordination call on a public health programme, which gives 190 communication channels. What is the most useful conclusion the project manager can draw from that figure?
- A.Coordination has outgrown informal contact between everyone, so the communication structure now needs deliberate design.
- B.The call should be replaced entirely by a written weekly report.
- C.The programme is overstaffed and headcount should be reduced until the channel count falls.
- D.The figure should be logged in the risk register as a coordination complexity risk.
Domain: People
Q4.Every weekly report went out on schedule to all fourteen stakeholders this quarter, and on that basis the project manager reports communication as healthy. What is the weakness in that conclusion?
- A.The records prove the reports were sent, not that anyone read or understood them, so there is no feedback loop.
- B.Status should not be reported as healthy while any variance remains open.
- C.The reports should be placed in a repository so stakeholders retrieve them at their own pace.
- D.Fourteen stakeholders should be split into separate distribution lists by function.
Domain: People
Q5.Two analysts on a hybrid insurance project disagree about which of two data models to adopt. Both care about the outcome, the decision is not needed for three weeks, and no safety or compliance concern is involved. Which conflict resolution style should the project manager use?
- A.Collaborate and problem solve, working the disagreement through to a solution that satisfies both sets of interests.
- B.Compromise, taking half of each model so the matter is settled quickly.
- C.Force and direct, making the call so the team can move on.
- D.Withdraw and avoid, since the decision is not needed for another three weeks.
