If you looked up the Microsoft Dynamics 365 certification path a year ago and saved the list, half of it no longer exists. Six exams have retired since December 2025, four of them in a single six-week stretch this summer, and only one of the four got a direct replacement.
The short version: MB-910 and MB-920 went first, at the end of 2025. MB-240, MB-335 and MB-700 retired on 30 June 2026. MB-280 followed on 31 July 2026, replaced by AB-210. Six MB exams are still live and taking bookings. Everything else on the old path has been folded into Microsoft's new AB-series, which is built around AI and agents rather than around individual Dynamics apps.
Here is what is gone, what survived, and what to sit instead.
Which Dynamics 365 exams are retired
| Exam | Certification | Retired | Replacement |
|---|---|---|---|
| MB-910 | Dynamics 365 Fundamentals (CRM) | 31 December 2025 | None announced |
| MB-920 | Dynamics 365 Fundamentals (ERP) | 31 December 2025 | None announced |
| MB-240 | Field Service Functional Consultant Associate | 30 June 2026 | None announced |
| MB-335 | Supply Chain Management Functional Consultant Expert | 30 June 2026 | None announced |
| MB-700 | Finance and Operations Apps Solution Architect Expert | 30 June 2026 | AB-100 recommended, not a direct swap |
| MB-280 | Customer Experience Analyst Associate | 31 July 2026 | AB-210 |
Two things stand out. The fundamentals tier was removed entirely, so there is no longer an entry-level Dynamics 365 exam. And the expert tier lost both of its specialist credentials in one day, with Microsoft pointing architects at a new exam that covers a much broader remit than the one it replaced.
Exam Tip: A retired exam does not invalidate a certification you already hold. It stays on your Microsoft Learn profile and transcript permanently and remains publicly verifiable. It stays active for one year after your last pass or renewal, then moves to expired status, and you cannot renew it once the exam has retired.
That last clause is the part people miss. Holding MB-700 is fine. Renewing it next year is not possible, so plan the next credential before your renewal window closes rather than after.
The six Dynamics 365 exams still live in 2026
The functional and developer tiers came through mostly intact. These are still bookable:
- MB-230 Dynamics 365 Customer Service Functional Consultant Associate
- MB-310 Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant Associate
- MB-330 Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management Functional Consultant Associate
- MB-500 Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Apps Developer Associate
- MB-800 Dynamics 365 Business Central Functional Consultant Associate
- MB-820 Dynamics 365 Business Central Developer Associate
MB-310 was refreshed for 2026 and now runs across five domains: financial management setup and configuration at 20 to 25 percent, accounts payable and expenses at 10 to 15 percent, accounts receivable at 15 to 20 percent, budgeting and fixed assets at 15 to 20 percent, and financial reporting and consolidation at 15 to 20 percent.
Business Central is the safest corner of the whole portfolio. MB-800 and MB-820 have survived every round of cuts, and neither has a retirement date attached.
What AB-210 actually is
AB-210 leads to the Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Sales AI Consultant Associate certification. The exam is titled "Accelerating Sales Pipelines with AI in Dynamics 365", and it is the only named, direct replacement to come out of this retirement round.
Confirmed exam mechanics:
- Duration: 120 minutes
- Passing score: 700 out of 1000, the standard Microsoft scale
- Level: Intermediate, associate tier
- Status: Beta, schedulable through Pearson VUE at the reduced beta fee
The content shifted rather than transferred. MB-280 tested Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Insights and the customer experience stack as configuration work. AB-210 tests designing, configuring and operationalising AI-driven sales solutions using Dynamics 365 Sales, Microsoft Copilot in Dynamics 365 Sales, and sales agents across the lead-to-cash lifecycle.
If you were part-way through an MB-280 study plan when it retired, the Dynamics 365 Sales data model and security work still applies. The Copilot configuration, agent setup and forecasting content is new, and there is a lot of it.
Exam Tip: Beta exams score differently. Results are held until Microsoft finishes analysing the item performance, which usually takes several weeks after the beta period closes. Sitting a beta gets you the cheaper fee and the earliest possible credential, at the cost of not knowing your result on the day.
Where architects go now that MB-700 is gone
MB-700 was the Finance and Operations solution architect exam, and Microsoft has not replaced it like for like. The recommendation is AB-100, the Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect Expert certification, which sits at expert level and covers architecting agentic AI business solutions across the Microsoft business applications estate.
Calling it a replacement overstates it. MB-700 was a Finance and Operations exam. AB-100 is a business-applications architecture exam with AI at the centre of it, and a candidate who passed MB-700 on F&O depth alone will find a meaningful gap in the agent design and governance content.
The same pattern is running across the rest of the Microsoft portfolio. MS-102 was replaced by AB-650, PL-500 and PL-600 were retired from the Power Platform path, and the full list is in our rundown of every Microsoft certification retiring in 2026. Microsoft is rebuilding around roles that assume AI is already in the product, and the app-by-app functional consultant exams are the ones being absorbed.
Choosing your next Dynamics 365 certification
Match the decision to where you already sit:
You hold a retired MB exam. Nothing to do urgently. The credential is permanently verifiable. Book the successor before your one-year active window runs out if you want a current certification on your profile.
You are a sales or customer experience consultant. AB-210 is the path, and sitting it in beta is the cheapest it will ever be.
You are a finance, supply chain or Business Central consultant. MB-310, MB-330, MB-800 and MB-820 are all still live and none has an announced retirement date. These are the stable choices.
You are an architect. AB-100 at expert level, with the caveat that the agentic AI content is genuinely new material rather than a rebadge of what you already know.
You are starting from zero. There is no Dynamics 365 fundamentals exam any more. The nearest entry point is the AI and Copilot fundamentals tier, and AB-650 is where most people now land before specialising.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Dynamics 365 certification is best?
It depends on the application you work in, because the portfolio no longer has a single flagship. For Business Central, MB-800 for functional work and MB-820 for development. For Finance and Operations, MB-310 or MB-330. For sales and customer experience, AB-210 is now the only current option after MB-280 retired.
Is MD-102 worth it?
MD-102 is an endpoint administration certification rather than a Dynamics 365 one, so it does not sit on this path at all. It changed on 24 July 2026, gaining a new fifth domain, and it remains the standard Microsoft credential for device and endpoint management work.
How hard is the PL-200 exam?
PL-200 retired on 31 August 2026 and has been replaced by AB-410. The difficulty question has moved with it: AB-410 covers the same Power Platform functional consultant ground with AI and agent configuration added, which makes it broader than PL-200 was.
Is MS-900 a beginner level certification?
MS-900 was Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, a genuine beginner credential, and it retired on 31 March 2026. AB-900, the Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals certification, is the current entry point at that tier.
Do I lose my certification when the exam retires?
No. The certification stays on your Microsoft Learn transcript permanently and stays publicly verifiable. It remains in active status for one year from your last pass or renewal and then shows as expired, because a retired exam cannot be renewed.
Ready to Start Practising?
The Dynamics 365 path is smaller and more AI-weighted than it was twelve months ago, and the exams that replaced the retired ones test material most functional consultants have never had to configure in anger. Reading the objectives is not the same as being ready for them.
